Generating Negative Voltages from a Positive
Such 12 V is often converted to ±5 V, or ±15 V with galvanic isolation, to supply multiple signal chain and driver ICs in traction
Some small power inverters are equipped with DC power cords with plugs that can be plugged into a 12 volt vehicle outlet. Some have a cord set that have battery clips identified as Positive (Red color) and Negative (Black color). Some small inverters have two cords supplied; one with a plug and one with battery clips. 12 Volt Outlets
The PGPI is a 6V to 12V converter for vehicles that still have a 6V, positive ground electrical system. It is necessary if you are still running positive ground for all of our radios, which run on a 12V, negative ground electrical system. The PGPI positive ground inverter comes with detailed wiring instructions.
Such 12 V is often converted to ±5 V, or ±15 V with galvanic isolation, to supply multiple signal chain and driver ICs in traction inverters or chargers. Other industrial inverters like photovoltaic inverters or motor drives may require isolation as well.
If you are still running a positive ground system, then a positive ground inverter is necessary for our radios, which all operate on a 12V, negative ground electrical system. The PGPI positive ground inverter comes with detailed wiring instructions. We recommend using the MEMMOD memory module in conjunction with this device to retain your presets.
