India''s first commercially approved Battery Energy Storage System in Delhi
Delhi''s Power Minister Ashish Sood on Thursday inaugurated India''s first commercially approved and South Asia''s largest standalone utility-scale Battery Energy
Power Minister Ashish Sood on Wednesday announced that Delhi is set to be equipped with “South Asia's largest” utility-scale standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
This commercially approved system will enhance power supply for over one lakh South Delhi residents. The BESS, utilizing Lithium Iron Phosphate technology, ensures reliable power, grid stability, and optimized costs, marking a new standard for urban energy management.
To address this challenge, the Delhi government is actively developing WtE infrastructure aimed at converting the city's towering waste heaps into usable power.
With a significant increase in renewable energy generation capacity, it is imperative that storage facilities are developed to help India and the world transition to clean energy. With an annual tariff nearly 55% lower than the previous benchmark, the project sets a new standard for BESS affordability in India.
