ESB officially launches Poolbeg energy storage system
ESB has officially opened a battery plant at its Poolbeg site in Dublin which will add 75MW (150MWh) of energy storage to help provide grid stability and deliver more renewables
The Dublin Energy Hub, housing the largest battery, serves as a testbed for the future of clean energy in Ireland. It is envisioned as a hub for integrating various green technologies, including offshore wind, hydrogen, and carbon capture and storage, all working together to power a sustainable future for the Emerald Isle.
The Poolbeg Battery Energy Storage System is located at our Poolbeg Energy Hub in Dublin where some of the latest technologies will support the future delivery of renewable energy including batteries, hydrogen and offshore wind will be deployed over the next decade.
The company said the battery energy storage system (BESS) is part of a pipeline of projects in Dublin and Cork which have an investment cost of up to €300m. The batteries can store excess renewable energy for discharge when required, and in doing so help to support Ireland in reaching its climate targets.
We have hosted the facilities at the Irish Open at Portrush as well as Microsoft and our head office in Dublin.
