Solar rebates, tax credits, sales tax exemptions and other incentives vary significantly from state to state. Arizona, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, South Carolina and Utah offer personal tax credits to encourage solar installations.
By switching to solar in 2024, homeowners in New York can take advantage of ongoing federal, state and local incentives. These include tax credits, rebates and beneficial net metering policies. Although there is the possibility for renewal, most incentive programs are only authorized for a certain period of time or until funding runs out.
New York State is making solar energy more accessible to homes, businesses, and communities through NY-Sun incentives and a network of qualified installers. Combined with declining equipment costs, New York State tax credits, and Inflation Reduction Act tax credits for commercial solar, going solar is a great option.
The IRA also included standalone or retrofitted energy storage projects, so batteries added to an existing system would qualify for the 30% tax credit as well. While the federal solar tax credit is the only widely available residential solar incentive from the federal government, many states have incentives available to homeowners who adopt solar.
