Egypt Prepares for 5G Rollout Across All Telecom Operators
Egypt is set to introduce fifth-generation (5G) technology through its four major telecom operators in the first half of this year, according to Minister of Communication and Information
This allows for the management of traffic lights, air quality monitoring, and improved transport services, in addition to accelerating digital government services. Egypt is working to integrate these technologies in new cities such as the New Administrative Capital and New Alamein. When will 5G coverage reach all provinces?
In addition, a total of 819,000 5G base stations have been built by these three telecom giants, accounting for 70% of the world's total. As China has played a leading role in 5G technology, its 5G development has extraordinary significance for other countries.
Telecom and technology experts have confirmed that 5G will enhance Egypt's regional standing in the telecommunications market and open broader horizons for investment in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and smart cities. It will also provide a strong boost toward achieving the goals of “Digital Egypt Vision 2030.”
5G networks have started to appear in some vital areas within major cities, such as New Cairo and the New Administrative Capital, through limited trial operations by the four licensed telecom companies. Technical work is currently ongoing to gradually expand coverage, in line with the NTRA's plan.
